Marco Maccapani is the new Artistic Director of the Carnival of Venice 2016-2018
This represents a three-year commitment for Marco Maccapani, who for over 30 years has been a designer and creator of grand events and television and advertising productions.
As artistic director, Marco Maccapani will be responsible for the design and coordination of the programme of the Carnival, defining its theme, its planning, and the common thread that will accompany us through the three weeks of the event. According to tradition, the choice of the Artistic Director was made by the Mayor of Venice. The engagement of Marco Maccapani marries a shining professional résumé with a personal sensitivity for Venice and its promotion around the world; qualities that led Mayor Luigi Brugnaro to make this appointment.
Born in Milan in 1959, Marco Maccapani is best known in the world of fashion. Since 1984 he has been a member of Show Work – one of the first production houses for fashion events in Italy and Europe.
As a producer and director he has worked with Urban Production in the creation of the most important events and fashion shows for international brands and designers such as Valentino, Versace, Armani, Missoni, Ferré, Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabbana, Cerutti, and Gucci. He was the designer and producer of the first ever Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week in Sydney in 1996, and has directed and produced the last 14 editions of the Lifeball in Vienna.
He collaborates with WME/IMG as creative director in the production and creation of fashion weeks around the world: Istanbul, Berlin, Sydney, Zurich, Singapore and New York. As a director and film maker he produces and directs movies and video clips for the biggest international fashion houses.
The entire staff of Vela, who are already working towards the 2016 Carnival, wishes Marco Maccapani, the new Artistic Director, every success in his new role.
